When using a 100% silicone gel printing plate, you may notice acrylic paint can bead at first. This is due to silicone's smooth, stable surface and is easy to dial in with quick prep. Lightly clean the plate with mild dish soap and water to remove oils, then dry with a lint-free cloth. For the most even roll-out, use heavier body or matte acrylics, or mix a drop or two of acrylic medium into fluid paints to lower surface tension. If needed, "season" the plate by rolling on a thin layer of acrylic medium or matte gel and letting it dry; this creates a slightly more receptive paint surface. Avoid alcohol-based cleaners, which can temporarily increase beading. With simple prep and balanced paint consistency, a silicone gel plate yields smooth, even transfers and vibrant color.
